International Mono-Performances Festival “MONOCLE” (St. Petersburg, Russia)
“Monocle” is the International Mono-Performances Festival, member of the International International Association of One Man Show Festivals and Workshops.
The Festival is held since 1997, once in two years in February-March (organizers reserve the right to change the terms of the Festival). It is intended for furthering the genre of mono-performances and developing new forms of acting art and dramaturgy.
Founders of the Festival: Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography of the Russian Federation, Culture Committee of the St. Petersburg Government, Inter-Regional Public Organization of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region “Division of the Theatre Workers Union of the Russian Federation”, Baltic International Festival Center, “Baltic House” Theatre-Festival.
Representatives of Belorussia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Finland, Croatia, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Estonia became participants of the Festival for several years of its existence.


The Festival consists of two rounds – the St. Petersburg round and the International one.  St. Petersburg actors take part in the St. Petersburg round, foreign actors, actors from the other cities of Russia, as well as not more than 3 winners of the St. Petersburg round participate in the International round of the Festival.  The jury works during the International (main) round, as well.  It determines performances-winners in the following nominations: The First, the Second and the Third Prizes.  Actors who plaid in the performances-winners are awarded with memorial gifts and diplomas.  Members of the jury are prominent Russian and foreign theatre critics, actors, directors, theatre managers and organizers of different theatre festivals.
A guest of honor traditionally participates in the Festival. This is one of significant actors of Russian or a foreign theatre, successfully working in the one-man-show genre.
Performances included in the program of the St. Petersburg round are shown on the stages of the “Baltic House” Theatre-Festival or stages of the other St. Petersburg theatres.  In case of necessity the “Baltic House” Theatre-Festival  provides technical service for the performances (the work of the production department).

Organizers of the Festival pay to participants of the International round for accommodation, meals (breakfast in the hotel, lunch in the theatre).  Participants of the International round are to arrive to St. Petersburg on the day preceding the performance, and depart next morning.
The time for a stage rehearsal is provided to participants of both rounds on the day of performance.
